13th ANNUAL MAUI CHINESE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL : Kahului, Maui Hawaii

KAHULUI – The sights and sounds of Chinese New Year take center stage at Maui Mall from 9 am to 2 pm, on Saturday, January 28, 2012 when the Year of the Dragon makes its auspicious debut. Free family event!

Lion Dancers from the Maui Chinese Martial Arts Society start things off at 10 am. Also enjoy the Keiki Chinese Costume Contest and free Good Luck Lion photos for kids in Chinese Attire by Photography by Irvin.

The day’s festivities will also include a fried rice cooking contest, Children Chinese Attire Contest, Children Art Contest for the Year of the Dragon, Children Chinese craft activities, calligraphy and a special Chinese antique display.

Also to greet the New Year are the Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association with their active and energetic dragon dancers and more lion dancers. This Oahu based marshal arts group bring in the Chinese New Year with extra joyous festivities.

The 13th annual Maui Chinese New Year is sponsored by the Maui Chinese Cultural Society, Maui Chinese Club, County of Maui, Tri-Isle RC&D, First Hawaiian Bank, A&B Properties, Inc., Connec, LLC and Maui Mall Association.

2nd Annual Oyster Cook-Off : Apalachicola, Florida Forgotten Coast

The Second Annual Oyster Cook-Off to benefit the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department will be held on Friday Jan. 13 and Saturday January 14, 2012. The Friday evening event will be a preview of the oyster-related silent auction items, along with a sampling of the Apalachicola Bay's tasty bivalves. The actual cook-off on Saturday will start at 10 a.m.; contestants are encouraged to enter with their favorite recipe. All forms of oysters will be available to taste: raw, steamed and fried. Other food items and refreshments will be available for purchase also. The day's activities will include live music and dancing performances.

The San Diego Symphony Chamber Music Series : San Diego, California

San Diego Symphony is proud to announce second, expanded season of our Chamber Music Series. These concerts feature members of the San Diego Symphony collaborating with some of our most prominent Jacobs Masterworks guest artists in performances of great works of the chamber music repertoire at one of the finest small-ensemble halls in San Diego: the auditorium of La Jolla's Neurosciences Institute.
