Kona Historical Society Bread Baking at the Portuguese Stone Oven : Big Island Hawaii

Every Thursday between 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, 2011 Kona Historical Society headquarters in Kealakekua, Big Island The Kona Historical Society’s Portuguese Stone Oven is a reproduction of a typical oven used by the Portuguese immigrants who came to Kona in the 1880’s. Join the process of panning the dough and baking 96 loaves. The program is FREE and the bread is $7 per loaf. Bring your lunch and make a day of it with an oven-side picnic in the pasture.

Jul 20, 2012 - Jul 22, 2012 Dauphin Island, AL Fishing begins at 5:00am Friday, July 20th with the ceremonial cannon blast at the ADSFR site, and concludes at 5:00pm Sunday, July 22nd with a ceremonial cannon blast.The weigh station will be open from 10:00am – 7:00pm Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00am – 5:00pm Sunday. The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo currently holds the Guinness World Records title for the World’s largest fishing tournament. In the last 10 years the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo has funded more than $150,000 in Marine Science scholarships at the University of South Alabama from tournament proceeds. Admission: ADSFR Open Competition ticket: $ 40 per angler Open Division and Speckled Trout Jackpot: $ 50 per boat. Stars & Stripes Explosion

Multiple live performances on oceanfront stages attract tens of thousands of visitors and residents of Hampton Roads to a “star-spangled” salute to this great country of ours at Stars & Stripes Explosion! Musical acts offer something for everyone with tribute bands saluting some of the biggest names in music.

From 8:00pm-9:30pm, a stage erected right on the beach at 20th Street becomes the focal point for performances by Symphonicity (the symphony orchestra of Virginia Beach) together with the Virginia Beach Chorale. This musical program encompasses patriotic songs, Broadway standards, movie themes, and folk music.

The show segues into a spectacular fireworks show at 9:30pm that explodes over the ocean in a burst of colors and patterns! All concerts are free and open to the public!
